Learning Town - Learning on Immigrant and Multicultural Education
Mobility of people and migration are increasing rapidly in the European towns. More and more people are moving to our towns and communities as refugees, workers, students, job seekers and through marriage. This means a growing demand for the lifelong learning providers to offer services and edudaction for learner groups with heterogenous language and cultural backgrounds. The immigrants have various special needs and often cannot directly enter the formal and vocational education or work life before learning the new language, IT skills, as well as societal and cultural skills and knowledge.
In addition, the education institutions, communities and towns are aware of that social integration requires more than offering separate immigrant education for immigrant groups. Social integration also requires multicultural interaction, communication and activities involving both immigrant and native learners. This way we can encourage the active citizenship of not only the immigrant learners but also the native population.
